Important Safety BPC-157 Oral and Injection

BPC-157 Oral and Injection (Compounded Body Protection Compound-157) | Patient Safety Information

Important Safety Notice

THIS IS A CUSTOM PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION INTENDED ONLY FOR YOU.

What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 is a lab-made peptide (a chain of 15 amino acids, the building blocks of proteins). It is based on a protein first found in human stomach juice. It is intended only for adults 18 years and older. This sheet covers two forms:

  • BPC-157 Injection: given under the skin (subcutaneous injection).
  • BPC-157 Oral: taken by mouth.

Important: BPC-157 is a compounded medication. It is NOT FDA-approved for any use, and no BPC-157 product is approved in any country. It has not been reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality.

What it is studied for: In animal studies, BPC-157 appeared to support healing of the gut, tendons, ligaments, and muscle. Proposed actions include forming new blood vessels (angiogenesis), supporting tissue repair, and calming inflammation. Human research is very limited: only five small studies, none using the oral or under-the-skin routes. Results vary, and no specific outcome is guaranteed.

Regulatory status (as of October 2026): In May 2026, FDA staff recommended that BPC-157 not be added to the list of ingredients pharmacies may use in compounding. On July 23, 2026, FDA's advisory committee voted 8 to 6 to recommend adding it. That vote is not binding, and FDA has not issued a final decision. Availability may change based on that decision and the laws in your state.

Athletes: BPC-157 is banned in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). If you are tested for drugs in competition, do not use this medication.

Note: This summary does not contain all possible safety information. It is not a substitute for advice from your healthcare provider. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

PART A: BPC-157 Injection (Subcutaneous)

How to Use BPC-157 Injection

  1. Prepare: Wash your hands. Check the vial label and beyond-use date (BUD). Do not use if the liquid is cloudy, discolored, or has particles. Wipe the vial top with a fresh alcohol swab.
  2. Draw the dose: Use a new, sterile needle and syringe every time. Draw only the dose shown on your prescription label. Never share needles, syringes, or vials.
  3. Where to inject: Inject under the skin into fatty tissue, such as the abdomen, thigh, or back of the upper arm. Clean the site with an alcohol swab and let it dry.
  4. Rotate sites: Use a different spot each time to reduce irritation. Do not inject directly into an injured, painful, or inflamed area unless your provider tells you to.
  5. Dispose safely: Place used needles and syringes in an FDA-cleared sharps container right away. Never throw loose needles in the trash.

Important Usage Notes: Injection

Injection-Specific Warnings

  • Immune reactions are more likely with injection. FDA notes that peptides given under the skin are more likely to trigger the immune system than peptides taken by mouth. Impurities or clumped peptide particles may raise this risk.
  • Infection risk. Any injection can cause infection. Watch for spreading redness, warmth, pus, blistering, or fever.
  • Reports to FDA after BPC-157 injection include injection site redness and swelling, shortness of breath leading to an emergency visit, and skin and gum darkening (with a combined BPC-157/TB-500 “research use” product). It is unclear whether BPC-157 caused these effects.

PART B: BPC-157 Oral

How to Take BPC-157 Oral

  1. Take on an empty stomach: about 30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after, or as directed by your provider.
  2. Swallow whole with a glass of water unless your label says otherwise.
  3. Be consistent: Take it at the same time each day to make it easier to remember.

Important Usage Notes: Oral

Oral-Specific Notes

  • Stomach upset (nausea, bloating, or gas) may occur, especially when starting. Gas and headache were the most common effects when BPC-157 was given rectally to healthy volunteers.
  • Lower immune risk. FDA considers the immune risk of oral peptides likely low, but impurities in the product can still cause problems.
  • Do not use dietary supplement BPC-157 or “research use only” products. Their contents and quality are not controlled.

FOR BOTH FORMS

Who Should NOT Use BPC-157

Do not use BPC-157 (oral or injection) if you:

  • Have active cancer. BPC-157 promotes new blood vessel growth, which could in theory support tumor growth. No cancer safety studies have been done.
  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Safety has not been established.
  • Have a known allergy or sensitivity to BPC-157 or any ingredient in the prescribed formulation
  • Are under 18 years of age
  • Are an athlete subject to drug testing (BPC-157 is banned by WADA)

Important Warnings

Limited Safety Data

  • No human studies have measured how BPC-157 is absorbed or cleared after oral or under-the-skin use.
  • Human studies were small (2 to about 26 people), short (up to 2 weeks), and reported little safety detail. No serious side effects were reported. Long-term safety is unknown.

Cancer

  • Tell your provider if you have a history of cancer or are being screened for it. Long-term cancer risk has not been studied.

Blood Clotting and Liver Effects

  • In 28-day animal studies, BPC-157 changed blood clotting test results and raised liver enzymes, blood sugar, and triglycerides. It is unknown whether this happens in people.
  • Tell your provider if you have a bleeding or clotting disorder, liver disease, or diabetes. Your provider may order lab tests.

Allergic and Skin Reactions

  • Stop using and get medical help right away for hives, facial or throat swelling, wheezing, or trouble breathing. • Report any new darkening of your skin or gums.

Drowsiness and Alertness

  • BPC-157 may cause dizziness in some people, especially when starting.
  • Use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.

Product Quality

  • FDA found BPC-157 ingredients are not well standardized. Use only product dispensed by a licensed pharmacy under your prescription.

Other Precautions

Talk to your doctor before using BPC-157 if you:

  • Have cancer or a history of cancer
  • Have a bleeding or clotting disorder, liver disease, or diabetes
  • Have a planned surgery or dental procedure
  • Take any other peptides (such as TB-500) or are using a combination peptide product
